01

Take a closer look

Colour, physical state and solubility are examples of properties of substances. A photograph alone cannot identify the substance in a glass. Never taste unknown substances or mix them without instructions.

02

Now try it

  1. Describe only what you can actually see in the image. Mark every assumption.
  2. On paper, plan how a teacher could compare the solubility of two known solids in water. Do not carry it out without supervision.

03

Think it through

Can colour identify a substance conclusively?

See a suggested answer

No. Different substances can look alike. Identification requires further suitable investigation.
